The week that I get the most work done is the one where my American friends celebrate Thanksgiving. I’m Canadian you see, and we celebrate Turkey day much earlier, so for me this is a work week. Canadians are expert at taking more holidays than almost any other nation (with the exception of those in France, no contest!) but there is one time of year that our American neighbors take the cake (or the Turkey): Thanksgiving. It is likely the longest holiday in the U.S. and the week is pretty much a write off. I don’t mind, really. Thanks for helping me and my other Canadian friends to get caught up on our inboxes and to-do list during this time!

As a senior manager or business owner, I get it, there aren’t enough hours in the day. You want to spend more time reading up on new ways to take your business or department to the next level, but best intentions are dashed by the hour-hand on your clock moving way too fast. In the words of Peter Drucker, “Time is the scarcest resource.” If he were alive today he would know that this truth is more relevant than ever before in the history of business.

If you are an office equipment dealer or a managed services provider you might have heard about a little thing called “Channel Convergence.” But did you know that it’s not some future thing you need to worry about, but a very real threat (or opportunity) to your business today?
In today’s episode of Convergence Radio we will be chatting with an old industry friend, Norm McConkey. I actually started my managed print career with Norm back in the day when device monitoring and management for the humble printer was new and exciting. Times have certainly changed since then!
Murphy’s law: “What can go wrong will go wrong.” I’m sure we’ve all been subject to this adage. Today I had a Murphy day. What you are about to read is 100% true. None of the names have been changed to disguise anyone.
When you think of a supercomputer, what comes to mind? How big do you think it is? Are you thinking of the WOPR in War Games? Are you thinking of those old IBM data center pictures from the late 60’s and early 70’s? Not even close. Let me help you, because it’s way bigger than you might be imagining. How about a supercomputer that uses over 10 million CPUs? One that can create an entire virtual Universe and keep it simulating for over an hour? Some scientists in China recently did just that! It’s a cool story and you should check it out HERE.
It seems all we see in the news anymore is another article about Ransomware and it certainly has gripped the popular (and fearful) imagination. I know a couple of people who have fallen victim to it and you probably do to. But I know a TON more people who have stories to share about data breaches and leaks from “the inside.” In most cases they know the secrets left the office but they have no idea how or when. Unlike ransomware, these threats to data security exist under our noses every day and most people don’t even know that it’s happening.
It seems everywhere you look there’s a session on SBB (Seat Based Billing) for managed print. The CDA, BTA, ITEX and the MPSA have all had sessions or webinars in 2017. There’s even an “SBB Road Show” rolling through 3 cities this summer. It seems the office equipment world has gone crazy for it.
