During the course of investigating a customer’s software issue, I’m sure I overheard someone invoke Murphy, it may even have been me…We’re all well aware of Murphy’s Law, which over time has been distilled down to “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”  Judging by the ebb and flow of sites dedicated to corollaries of Murphy’s law, as they apply to computers or computing, it would seem that there is a definite connection in our gestalt between Murphy’s law and computers.

Creating Your Own Happy Meal: What McDonald’s Can Teach Us All About Great Customer Service

I was running errands a few days ago and stopped at McDonald’s for lunch. I was greeted by a very friendly young lady as I entered the restaurant. I ordered my food at one of the new self-order stations and then waited. While I was waiting for my food, I noticed a very positive vibe among the McDonald’s crew. There was laughter and light hearted chatting, they were clearly enjoying their work day. The manager, who was also laughing and chatting, noticed me and told me that I could have a seat and they would bring my food to the table. I declined her offer and told her I didn’t mind waiting at the counter. I was actually thinking to myself that I didn’t want to sit down because I was enjoying watching this very engaged team led by, what I was assuming, was a great manager. My assumption about the manager was confirmed a few minutes later when I overheard one of the McDonald's crew tell a customer, “She’s a great boss!”

Certificate Changes to the Facilities Manager Server

On Thursday April 7th, Print Audit upgraded their SSL certificates to use SHA-2 in keeping with industry best practices.

For computers with Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 or better, you won’t notice any changes.  Support for SHA-2 based certificates is already built into these operating systems.

For older Windows operating systems running the ICE software or older browsers, please click here for further details about this change.

For additional information regarding SHA-2 compatible operating systems and web browsers, you can visit the following site:  https://www.digicert.com/sha-2-compatibility.htm.

Car mechanic with laptop checking enineNot many people know this about me but I’m a bit of a certified car nut.  Since I was 15 I have owned 100’s of cars, everything from Jaguars to Chevy’s to Volkswagen’s.  Through my myriad of cars I have become rather handy in repairing cars.  I have acquired many tools that not only help me repair cars but also diagnose issues.   My favorite diagnostic tool is the OBD (On Board Diagnostic) reader.  It makes it so much easier to diagnose and address issues!

What’s New in Facilities Manager 3.12 and ICE 1.19.0

We are pleased to announce the release of Facilities Manager 3.12 along with ICE 1.19.0 – featuring a variety of enhancements.   Among the enhancements included in these releases:

    • Tracking IP addresses from end customer sites is now optional.
    • Display of the ICE Configuration Type.
    • Tracking of Samsung Toner cartridge attributes.
    • Enhancements to the Device Inventory export.

Tracking IP addresses now optional

This option determines whether Facilities Manager will collect, store and report on the IP address for devices in a Site.  The option is enabled by default.  If the option is disabled, then IP addresses for print devices within the Site will no longer be collected by ICE or visible within Facilities Manager.  To omit collection of the IP address by the ICE software, ICE 1.19.0 or higher must be running at the end customer’s site.
